Subject: Anti-Gun Legislator Claims the State Already Has a Gun Registry in Place
From: Colorado State Shooting Association

“We have that. That exists.”

That is what Colorado State Representative Chad Clifford said in response to testimony from multiple gun owners who pointed out that Senate Bill 24-066 would give the government the ability to create a gun-owner registry.

“We have a lot of databases. We have the CBI records checks that we already check. We have your concealed weapons permits… so I don't know that we are looking at some newfangled database specifically to create something to identify who has a gun. We have that. That exists… so, do you guys really think that the ultimate outcome for this is for us to track you? I mean, I have heard a lot of testimony on that, and it leaves me with a little bit of heartburn. We have that information.”

To be clear, the existence of a gun registry “to identify who has a gun” would be a violation of Federal Law 18 U.S.C. § 926, as well as the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 14th Amendments.

Is Clifford’s suggestion that a gun registry already exists simply deluded, or is he saying the quiet part out loud?

We want answers.

That is why the Colorado State Shooting Association (the state association of the NRA) will continue to fight this bill while simultaneously searching for answers about whether the state already has an illegal registry in place.

If SB24-066 does become law, we will explore every legal option to overturn it.

We cannot allow the government to get away with implementing these kinds of draconian measures.

We need your support. We have an all-volunteer board of directors and every penny we raise goes to the fight.
