When Proposition KK: Firearms and Ammunition Excise Tax was put on the 2024 ballot, the Colorado State Shooting Association vowed to fight it on every front. Today, thanks to your support, we are pleased to announce that we have retained the Washington D.C-based law firm of Cooper & Kirk PLLC to represent us in our efforts to challenge the constitutionality of this misguided law.
Cooper & Kirk has extensive experience litigating 2nd Amendment cases across the country in both state and federal courts, and has achieved notable victories to protect our right to keep and bear arms, including a decision invalidating a tax on firearms and ammo in Illinois. CSSA was able to take this step because of our members, donors, and supporters. Since we are an all volunteer board and have an internal volunteer legal team, we are able to keep our costs low. That allows us to put fundraising dollars where they matter: winning for the Second Amendment by bringing in firms like Cooper & Kirk.
Colorado’s gun grabbing legislators should know: whether it’s Proposition KK or Senate Bill 003, the semi-automatic firearm ban, now before them - we will fight their attacks on our rights in the legislature, at the ballot box, and if need be, in court. The Second Amendment is extremely clear: SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.
